Choosing the perfect time for your wedding ceremony is more than just setting a start time for your vows; it’s about crafting a timeline that flows seamlessly and ensures every moment of your day is magical. From catching the best light for photos to keeping your guests comfortable, there’s a lot to consider when picking your ceremony time.
Don’t worry—we’re here to guide you through the key factors to keep in mind. Plus, if you’re hosting your wedding at All4One Farms, one of our experienced coordinators will help ensure everything runs like clockwork. Here’s how to time your ceremony just right.
Key Factors to Consider
1. Season and Weather
Each season brings its own unique blessings and challenges. Your ceremony time can have a big effect on the comfort of your guests and the vibe of your day.
- Spring & Summer: These months offer longer days, but midday heat can make early-afternoon ceremonies uncomfortable. Consider starting later in the day, around 4 or 5 p.m., when temperatures start to cool. In Jacksonville as you get into April the temperatures can begin to be hot into the afternoons, so you might want to plan for a little later. Also, if you want to enjoy the beauty of the reception area after dark check the sunset times which can be after 8:00.
- Fall & Winter: Shorter days mean earlier sunsets. If you’re marrying in the late fall or winter, aim for a mid-afternoon ceremony (around 2 or 3 p.m.) to make the most of the light. At this time of year sunset will be earlier in the evening and in the fall you will enjoy the cooling off as the sun goes down. In January though you might want your guests to enjoy all the warn sunshine.

At All4One Farms, the rolling fields and beautiful oak trees look stunning year-round, so you’ll always have a picturesque backdrop no matter the season. We have almost nine years of wedding experiences and would love to help you think through planning the timing of your ceremony.
2. Sunset Time
The golden hour that occurs just before sunset provides some of the most romantic, glowing light for portraits—and trust us, you’ll want to take advantage of it!
Here’s a tip: work backward from sunset when planning your ceremony time. For example, if the sun sets at 7 p.m., aim to finish your ceremony by 6 or 6:15 p.m. so you and your photographer have time to capture those incredible golden-hour couple portraits.Of course there are other options to plan for getting these pictures. If you need to have your ceremony earlier in the day then you can plan for the couple to slip away for a “sunset shoot” while your guests enjoy dinner or dancing

At All4One Farms, the sunset streaming through the tree-lined paths or across the open pastures creates wedding photo magic you’ll treasure forever.
3. Venue Restrictions
Every venue has its own policies and restrictions, which can influence your timeline. Some venues might have a strict end time for events or require you to start the ceremony within a certain window.

At All4One Farms, our team works closely with couples to craft timelines that maximize the venue’s stunning scenery and flow smoothly from one part of the day to the next. Bonus? Our coordinators will ensure everything stays on schedule, giving you one less thing to stress about.
4. Photography Needs
Your photographer is an expert at capturing every part of your day beautifully, but timing plays a huge role in their ability to do so.
- Pre-Ceremony Prep: If you’re planning on doing a first look or detailed getting-ready shots, make sure there’s enough time before the ceremony.
- Golden Hour Portraits: Plan for some couple portraits during that magical sunset window.
- Reception Lighting: Talk to your photographer about whether they prefer natural light for key moments (like the first dance) or if flash photography is an option after sundown.

Working with your photographer and venue coordinator to align on timing ensures everyone has the space they need to do their best work. If you check out our preferred venue list you will find photographers that have been to our venue before and know how to plan for all the lighting conditions.
How Your Ceremony Time Affects the Rest of the Day
Cocktail Hour
Your ceremony time sets the stage for everything that follows. If your ceremony ends too late, cocktail hour might feel rushed. Conversely, if it’s too early, your guests could have a long gap between the ceremony and reception.
To avoid any awkward downtime, the All4One Farms team helps build a timeline where the transition from ceremony to cocktail hour and beyond feels seamless.
Dinner
If dinner or toasts are planned shortly after your ceremony, you’ll want to ensure there’s ample time for your guests to enjoy your reception meal without feeling hurried. Planning for an earlier ceremony (or a shorter one) can make all the difference.
Golden Hour Portraits
Golden hour happens fast, and it’s worth carving out time during your timeline to take full advantage of it. Our experienced coordinators at All4One Farms will help you find the perfect time to step away for these dreamy shots without disrupting the flow of your reception.
Dancing and Reception Events

Starting later can affect how much time guests have to dance and celebrate before the event comes to a close. A well-planned ceremony time helps ensure there’s plenty of time left for the party.
